Celebrating MasterSeries Proficiency Certification Success at Queens University, Belfast
Advancing Structural Engineering Skills with MasterSeries

We are delighted to celebrate the success of the students who recently achieved their MasterSeries Proficiency Certification following the completion of two in-depth workshops at Queen's University Belfast. These sessions provided valuable hands-on experience, equipping students with the skills necessary to confidently apply structural analysis and design principles using industry-leading software.
Workshop 1: MasterFrame – 3D Steel Structure Design

The certification journey began with Workshop 1, where students worked through a 3D Steel Structure Design. This session introduced them to the fundamental concepts of structural modelling and steel design using MasterFrame. Key areas covered included:
- Building a 3D structural model within MasterFrame.
- Defining and editing members such as bracing, beams, and tie members.
- Applying loads and setting up design groups.
- Performing structural analysis and reviewing Steel Design to Eurocode 3.

Following Workshop 1, students applied their learning to an assignment, which involved adapting their existing model to accommodate structural modifications, such as the removal of a column and the implementation of alternative beam arrangements. This task reinforced their ability to problem-solve and independently apply structural design principles.
Workshop 2: Introduction to Concrete Design with MasterSeries

Building on the steel design knowledge gained in Workshop 1, students advanced to Workshop 2, which focused on concrete design using MasterSeries Finite Element Analysis and the Concrete Slab and Wall Design. This session introduced them to:
- MasterSeries Finite Element Analysis (FEA): Setting up and analysing concrete slabs and walls.
- Concrete Slab and Wall Design Module: Designing reinforcement for slabs (including punching shear checks) and walls.
- Structural Load Application: Understanding how to apply gravity and wind loads.
- Developing Practical Design Skills: Creating and analysing a concrete-framed building.

By working through these structured tutorials, students were able to integrate advanced engineering concepts with real-world software applications, reinforcing their theoretical knowledge with hands-on experience.
Hands-On Learning for Future-Ready Engineers
The interactive nature of these workshops ensured that students not only learned the software but also developed critical problem-solving skills. By the end of the programme, participants had successfully modelled, analysed, and designed both steel and concrete structures, demonstrating their ability to independently navigate the MasterSeries software.
Looking Ahead: Continuing to Build Expertise
Students who have now achieved MasterSeries Proficiency Certification are equipped with a strong understanding of both steel and concrete design, giving them a competitive edge in the industry. Their ability to work independently with the software and apply engineering principles to complex structural challenges positions them well for future career opportunities.
As part of our ongoing commitment to supporting future engineers, we look forward to further workshops and opportunities for students to enhance their expertise in structural analysis and design.
Congratulations to all our newly certified students! We are excited to see how they apply their skills in their future careers.
